The journey through Iceland.

Monday 17th
We sailed along the Seltjarnarnes Peninsula in the big red Eldin Whale Watching boat named Hafsúlan. After passing Grótta lighthouse and carrying on 30 minutes out to sea, we patiently waited in the blistering cold wind and finally spotted the first glimpse of a humpback whale off of Faxaflói Bay. This whale seemed to be feeding, always changing it’s course and only surfacing for air. After an hour running back and forth from port to starboard to catch sight of this incredible animal, we set sail on search for Dolphins in the bay. We travelled towards the Whale Fjord then (Hvalfjörður) and after 20 minutes of sailing someone spotted a large splash over a mile away. At first no one knew where to look, but finally another humpback whale emerged from the depths. How lucky were we today not only one but two humpback whales, which apparently was quite a Rae sighting.
